Final Resting Places

There was a cemetery on the hillside outside the walls of Ai. The deceased were laid in caves. These caves were partly natural and partly man-made. The dead body was generally laid in a curled-up position. Food was left for their nourishment in the after-life. Weapons were buried with the men and jewelry with the women.
